Goodbye YIFI

Yes, the amusingly initialled Y’all is Fantasy Island finally called it a day last night, with the final gig in Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh. Despite originally being the bass player and leaving the band several years ago, I returned to take the place of former guitarist Tommy for this last assault on the ears of the listening public.

And it was a pretty good show as things go. There was not a huge number of people there, but those that came filled out the small venue nicely and were a great crowd. I am not a stranger to cheering crowds and people singing along, but it’s all the more satisfying when you are playing original material to an audience of music lovers, rather than ‘Mustang Sally’ at a drunken wedding reception.

Now we all move on to new things. There is a new project with YIFI songwriter Adam that we are currently trying to plan and I always have my library of unfinished songs that I might one day get around to doing something with. But I have been saying that for a long time now.

For now we can all reminisce about things that were and listen to the YIFI back catalogue. If you have never listened, then it is a bit late to catch a show, but you could always head over to their Bandcamp page.
